Pause for Prayer: SATURDAY 4/1

(Today's Pause for Prayer ends with words from Julian of Norwich, a 14th century mystic whose lines I often quote.  If you find Julian's words simplistic and unrealistic, please listen to the musical setting below in which the singer questions Julian - and Julian answers.)

Bumped into an old friend last night, Lord,
and circumstances of our meeting
and the conversation we shared
make me think that somehow it was you
who bumped us together...

My friend has a full plate,
a lot on his mind
and a heart burdened with worry
about a critical situation
in his life...

He said to me, several times,
"We need something good to happen..."

I know so many folks, Lord, who
"need something good to happen..."

I know so many people
who hunger for a turn of events,
for a piece of good news,
for a change in the right direction,
for a brighter day,
for a heaping helping of hope,
for strength to trust that
all shall be well,
that all shall be well,
that all manner of things
shall be well...

Since you, Lord, are the source
of all good gifts:
since every good gift
comes from your hand and your heart;
since you more than anyone
understand our plea
for something good to happen:
I pray for you to move
graciously and swiftly,
with a generous and healing hand,
offering heaping helpings of hope
to all of us who wait
for something good to happen...

And while we wait, Lord,
help us trust that
all shall be well,
that all shall be well,
that all manner of things
shall be well...

Amen.
