My life's a jigsaw puzzle, Lord,
and although I'd like to think
all the pieces are spread out on the table before me
- that’s not how it is...
There are hundreds of pieces right in front of me
and many of them are already connected:
at my age I can see a large portion of the picture
my life’s puzzle's been forming for decades...
But so many pieces
(I don't know how many)
are still in the puzzle box
- and the cover of that box is blank:
it doesn’t reveal the completed picture...
Even if I were able to open the box, Lord,
and spill out what pieces remain,
by this time I know you've hidden some
in the pockets of your heart:
pieces you’ll share with me in your own good time,
when you’re ready
- and find me ready, too...
Make me patient with my life's puzzling work, Lord.
Help me trust you’ll supply all the pieces there are,
all the pieces I need - when and as I need them -
and keep me from forcing pieces that don't fit or connect:
help me put them together as you intend,
for only you know
what my whole picture is meant to look like...
Help me help you make of my life’s puzzle
a graceful reflection of you and your love for me,
a picture of the life you called me to shape,
revealed in every piece,
in every puzzling piece,
every day of my life...
Amen.
