Pocket Prayer for THURSDAY 4/4

Sometimes it's a wall I build, Lord.

Sometimes it's a heavy curtain I close.

Sometimes it's a fence I put up.

Sometimes it's a moat I dig.

Sometimes it's a barricade
of denials and excuses.

Sometimes it's just all smoke and mirrors.

I have so many ways, Lord, to shield myself
from all the ways you reach out to touch me:
your nudge, your prodding, your challenge,
your command, your word, your wake-up call
- your kicking my butt!

But in this moment of grace, your gift to me,
I pray you'll demolish, tear down and undo
whatever I put up to keep me from your reach,
your strong hand and your gentle touch...

Amen.
