When the news boggles the mind, Lord,
when it strains belief, troubles the heart
and sickens the soul, then:
deepen our compassion,
anoint us with your wisdom,
energize our courage,
strengthen our resolve
and quicken our response
to plan, to scheme, to work
to love with mercy,
to act with justice
and to walk, always humbly,
by your side...
And let nothing, Lord -
no ideology, philosophy or theory,
no bias, prejudice or intolerance,
no system, strategy or policy,
no authority, administration or allegiance -
let nothing, Lord, stand in the way
of our loving and serving you
in the lives and needs
of our brothers and sisters...
Amen.
