Pause for Prayer: SATURDAY 5/23

I wouldn't mind,
I wouldn't mind at all,
if for a day I might become
- a lily pod...

Just for a day, Lord, just for a day...

I can see myself floating,
leisurely floating all day long in a secret pond,
face up, soaking in the rays,
my underside cooling in the shallows,
not a care in the world, just floating along,
just for a day, Lord, all day long...

And if a friendly frog should happen by
and ask to rest upon my leafy bed,
I assure you, Lord, Mr. Frog would be welcome:
he's light and wouldn't make a fuss,
he'd likely take a nap and then wake up
and with a ribbit - hop away...

What a simple way of life, Lord,
at one with you and nature, too:
a floating image of your beauty,
your quiet presence and your readiness
to make at home whomever might come by...

The peace of such a life, Lord:
serenity,
simplicity
in solitude and stillness,
slowly floating by
in sacramental silence...

I wouldn't mind,
I wouldn't mind at all,
if for a day I might become
- a lily pod...

Just for a day, Lord, just for a day...

Amen.
