NIGHT PRAYER: Monday 6/8

Well, Lord, for nine weeks now
we've been gathering by the light of this candle
to pray together each night, asking you
"to protect us while we're awake
and watch over us as we sleep..."

About 1500 folks come by here every day
from the US and the UK,
from Canada, Italy and Ireland,
from Hong Kong, Germany and Russia,
from France and the Netherlands:
only you, Lord, know how many
pray with us each night (or the next morning)
but you promised to be with us
"wherever two or three are gathered in your name"
and I know we number more than that from all the

and I'm grateful for the company...

Our candle - an electronic image,
our church - a virtual chapel,
our musicians - mp3
-- but the people who gather are real time, Lord,
and their prayers rise up from hearts and souls
that ache, rejoice, weep, laugh and find you
in the words and songs we share
from our iPad, laptop, smart phone pews...

So tonight, Lord,
I pray for all who gather here
from places 'round the world,
in time zones 'round the globe:
I pray for all who pray with me,
I pray for them to pray for me,
and pray we all will pray for one another...

Lord,
protect all those still wide awake,
and watch over those now fast asleep
that awake we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest deeply in your peace...
