NIGHT PRAYER: Wednesday 7/1

Maybe it's the lengthening shadows, Lord,
and the clouding, darkening sky
that lead us to worry and imagine the worst
as day fades into night...

Night leaves us blind to daylight's guideposts:
we lose our bearings and stumble in the dark,
trying to find our way
and sometimes we begin to imagine...

The dark of night reminds us
of what's mystery, what's unknown
and left to think and dream our fears,
we worry into restless sleep
imagining the worst...

But what if at the end of day
we turned our hearts to you, Lord,
and asked for grace to help us,
and by your light, imagine
the joy and peace you promise
when we meet you face to face...

Imagine...
we  can only imagine, Lord,
we can only hope, dream and imagine
what lies in store and waits for us
who listen for your word,
who trust your generous mercy,
who try to live as you command
and to love as you love us...

Protect us, Lord while we're awake
and watch over us as we sleep:
help us imagine that day, yet to dawn,
when our finest dreams will all come true
and the best that we imagine
will be forever ours...

Amen.

I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe

I can only imagine what it will be like
When I walk by your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see
When your face is before me
I can only imagine

Surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all

I can only imagine, I can only imagine
I can only imagine when that day comes
And I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine when all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you
I can only imagine, I can only imagine

Surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine, I can only imagine

Surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine, I can only imagine
I can only imagine, I can only imagine
I can only imagine, I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you
I can only imagine
