NIGHT PRAYER: Friday 10/9

(The first Friday of each month is set apart to honor the Heart of Jesus.  I began working on this post a few weeks back but didn't have it ready in time for October 2 - and I decided not to wait until November 6!)

Lord, you know all my joys and sorrows,
make them channels of your grace:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Heal the hearts of those I've hurt,
mend any harm I may have done:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

In your mercy sweep my soul
of all my failings, faults and sins:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Lift my spirits from the pits
up to the joy that's born of peace:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Clear my mind of idle thoughts,
of any foolishness and folly:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Grant me grace to do for others
what I'd have them do for me:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Be my strength when I am weak, Lord,
and my hope when I'm in doubt:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Make me quick to kindly offer
mercy, pardon and forgiveness:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Open wide my heart to give
each time I'm tempted to be selfish:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Content with what I have, Lord,
turn my eye from envy's craving:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Give me patience with my neighbor
as with patience you love me:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Make my heart your holy dwelling place,
my home your sacred heart:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Ease my fears and calm my heart
while I lie restless and awake:
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Guard me while I'm fast asleep, Lord
and be there when I awake...
    Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Amen.

In The Heart of Jesus performed by Sally Atari

In the heart of Jesus
  There is love for you,
Love most pure and tender,
  Love most deep and true;
Why should you be lonely,
  Why for friendship sigh,
When the heart of Jesus
  Has a full supply?

In the mind of Jesus
  There is thought for you,
Warm as summer sunshine,
  Sweet as morning dew;
Why should you be fearful,
  Why take anxious thought,
Since the mind of Jesus

  Cares for those He bought?

In the field of Jesus
  There is work for you;
Such as even angels
  Might rejoice to do;
Why stand idly sighing
  For some life-work grand,
While the field of Jesus

  Seeks your reaping hand?

In the home of Jesus
  There’s a place for you;
Glorious, bright, and joyous,
  Calm and peaceful too;
Why then, like a wand’rer,
  Roam with weary pace,
If the home of Jesus
  Holds for you a place?
