NIGHT PRAYER: Tuesday 4/27

So many folks I know, Lord, are living with fear...

Many are afraid of the virus,
concerned about the health of their loved ones
and their own health, too...

Others are fearful of the trajectory of our nation's political discourse
and the enmity that divides us in so many ways...

Some are afraid that important personal relationships
are breaking up - or already seem beyond repair...

Many have financial worries that lead them to fear
each time a bill (or reminder or demand) arrives in the mail...

Others are afraid they've made a poor choice,
taken a wrong turn
or missed an opportunity that may not come again...

And sadly, Lord, some are afraid of you,
afraid that your mercy, kindness and love
are somehow meant for others but not for them...

Truth be told, we all have fears, Lord,
some big, some small, some more acute than others...

I won't ask you to take all our fears away, Lord,
but I'm praying tonight we all find the grace
to trust in your protection whenever we're afraid,
to lean on you when we feel most helpless,
to call on you with faith that you'll hear us,
to run to you, as a child to it's mother,
to find a safe place, a haven of peace,
in your arms opened wide to embrace us...

Protect us, Lord, when fear keeps us awake
and watch over us in our sleep
that awake, we find our strength in you
and asleep, rest in the refuge of your peace...

Amen.

I Will Fear No More by The Afters

Every anxious thought that steals my breath
It's a heavy weight upon my chest
As I lie awake and wonder what the future will hold
Help me to remember that you're in control

You're my courage when I worry in the dead of night
You're my strength 'cause I'm not strong enough to win this fight
You are greater than the battle raging in my mind
I will trust You Lord, I will fear no more

I will lift my eyes, I will lift my cares
Lay them in Your hands, I'll leave them there
When the wind and waves are coming, you shelter me
Even though I'm in the storm, the storm is not in me

Chorus

No power can come against me 'cause you have overcome
No darkness can overwhelm me 'cause you've already won
No power can come against me 'cause you have overcome
No darkness can overwhelm me 'cause you've already won

Chorus
