Pause for Prayer: FRIDAY 4/16

Yesterday, Lord,
a friend of mine got some really good news,
news that may influence the rest of his life
- and he's young and has plenty of life ahead of him!

In reply to his news, Lord, I urged him to
Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

I was happy, of course, for my friend, Lord,
but then I realized  -  I was also happy for myself!
I needed, we all need: a little good news!

So this morning I want to pray, Lord,
for anyone and everyone who needs
a little good news...

For folks who've faced problem after problem,
difficulty and disappointment,
in this past pandemic year, Lord,
I pray for a little good news...

For those who've lost family and friends,
for those who've lost a job,
for those who've lost what keeps them happy,
I pray for a little good news...

For those who've spent the year alone,
apart from family and friends,
away from embraces and touch,
I pray for a little good news...

For those whose plans have been delayed,
for those whose plans have been canceled,
for those unable to make new plans,
I pray for a little good news...

For those who are unsure and afraid,
for those who are tired and burned out,
for those who are anxious and frightened,
I pray for a little good news...

For broken families trying to mend,
for those who are living one day at a time
and for all who are looking for a sign from you,
I pray for a little good news...

For the poor made poorer,
for the lonely made lonelier
and for the vulnerable made more defenseless,
I pray for a little good news...

For those who are waiting
and those who are enduring
and those who are hoping,
I pray for a little good news...

I've prayed in each instance
for a little good news - but -
if you have good news to spare, Lord,
then bring it on:
we can take all the good news
       you have to offer!

And I praise you, Lord,
from whom all all blessings, peace
and good news flow!

Amen.

(Anne Murray wrote this song in 1983. It's tragically sad
how appropriate it remains 38 years later...)

A Little Good News by Anne Murray,

I rolled out this morning
the kids had the morning news show on
Newscaster talking about the fight in Lebanon
Some senator was squawking about the bad economy
It's gonna get worse you see we need a change in policy

There's a local paper rolled up in a rubber band
One more sad story's one more than I can stand
Just once, how I'd like to see the headline say
Not much to print today can't find nothing bad to say
Because...

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'd, nobody burned a single building down
Nobody fired a shot in anger... nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today

I'll come home this evening
I'll bet that the news will be the same
Somebody takes a hostage, somebody steals a plane
I wanna hear the anchor man talk about a county fair
And how we cleaned up the air... how everybody learned to care
Whoa, tell me...

Nobody was assassinated in the whole Third World today
And in the streets of Ireland all the children had to do was play
And everybody loves everybody in the good old USA
We sure could use a little good news today

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'd, nobody burned a single building down
Nobody fired a shot in anger... nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today
