On any given day, Lord,
so many tasks demand my time
and vie for my attention...
And among these
some are so much more important
than all the others...
No day should pass, Lord,On any given day, Lord,
without my thanking you
for all I have and all you promise...
No day should pass
without my looking to others' needs
and reaching out to serve them...
No day should pass
without my listening for the Word
you whisper in my heart...
No day should pass
without my seeking to make right
my careless errors and mistakes...
No day should pass
without my striving to complete
the work that's mine to do...
No day should pass
without my pausing and discerning
where your Spirit leads and guides me...
No day should pass
without my asking for your pardon
for the ways I've failed to love...
many tasks demand my time
and vie for my attention...
Help me see what's most important
and attend to first things first,
with your guidance and your grace
- for today, Lord, for today...
