Where I live, Lord, all the talk's about the weather:
how hot and humid it is, this heat wave;
how bad it is in the Pacific northwest;
how long is this gonna last?
do you have AC? can you sleep at night?
is it gonna be like this all summer?
And in the background, on the radio or TV,
there's a reporter updating us on the heat exhaustion
suffered by first responders picking, sifting through
the wreckage of a collapsed condo building,
seeking human life or its remains
in Surfside, Florida...
It's hot in Florida, too, but these days, Lord,
there are dark clouds over the Sunshine State:
clouds of fear and grief, clouds of loss and sorrow,
clouds seeded with tears ready to rain down
as the days tick by and hope begins to fade...
Soon enough we'll find out how and why
this tragedy occurred:
for many its too late but for others,
lessons learned will keep us from repeating
this sad and tragic tale...
For those who died, then, Lord,
we pray your gift of mercy;
for those they left behind,
we pray your healing and compassion;
for those who search, in the heat,
we pray for their safety and their strength;
and for ourselves, Lord,
we pray the heat not keep us
from seeing and caring
for the needs of others...
Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
Pie Jesus by Andrew Lloyd Weber
Pie Jesu,
qui tollis peccata mundi,
dona eis requiem.
qui tollis peccata mundi,
dona eis requiem.
Agnus Dei,
qui tollis peccata mundi,
sempiternam requiem.
Sweet Jesus,
you take away the sins of the world,
give them rest.
Lamb of God,
you take away the sins of the world,
give them rest,
eternal rest.
sempiternam requiem.
Sweet Jesus,
you take away the sins of the world,
give them rest.
Lamb of God,
you take away the sins of the world,
give them rest,
eternal rest.
