Today's weather, Lord,
made things difficult for some - but for others
the snowfall hushed, slowed and paused
the ordinary rush of things
and we, halted in our tracks,
looked out and up to see
every barren branch frosted by your hand,
your artistry on every bush and tree...
Soon enough, the sun will come
and melt to memories
all that held us calm
in this quiet wintry chapel,
warmed by your presence
in our prayer, this holy day...
In our memories, then,
remind us of this day's retreat
and find a way on every day
to hush, slow and pause us
in the power of your Spirit,
in your artistry divine...
Protect us, Lord while we're awake,
keep vigil while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
To continue the theme of tonight's prayer, two instrumental options for reflection: the first a more playful choice than the second, but both quite apt for prayer!
