Tomorrow's scripture tells me:
The word is near you
in your mouth and in your heart...
Your word may be near, Lord,
but I don't hear it!
Is it a word I've been needing to hear?
waiting to hear?
longing to hear?
straining to hear?
Or might it be a word I don't want to hear?
A word I've tuned out?
A word I've ignored?
A word I've denied?
Is it a word of healing and comfort?
Or a word of challenge, a call to change?
Might it be a word you call me to share?
Or is it a word you'd have me keep?
Is it a word of pardon and mercy?
of truth and wisdom?
of direction and guidance?
I need a word from you, Lord.
I want to hear your word for me
in my heart, in my mind,
in my thoughts, in my soul
in the silence of my prayer
before a word is spoken...
Whatever your word for me, Lord,
I trust and I know you speak it in peace
and with kindness and patience
and love...
In this season Lent, Lord,
open my mind, my heart and my prayer
to hear the word you speak to me
and give the courage to act on your word,
whatever your word may be...
Speak, Lord,
I love to listen for your voice:
speak, Lord,
your servant is near...
Amen.
