Is this a Lenten post?
This IS a Lenten post!
The word Lent derives from the Old English word, lencten
which means springtime, the lengthening of days...
My friend's orchid* has bloomed in glory, Lord:
early for Easter
but just in time for Ash Wednesday
- and appropriately so!
Every Lent, Lord, you invite me
to grow in your love,
to bloom in your grace,
to reveal your beauty,
planted within me,
rooted deep in my heart...
So, here's my Lenten prayer, Lord,
my plea for this holy season:
nurture my growth, day by day,
in my faith in your mercy and pardon;
prune away what's wild or withered,
cut back what doesn't bear fruit;
feed my soul with truth of your word,
enlighten my mind with your wisdom...
Make of these days a growing time, Lord,
a season for glory to root, bud and bloom
in all that I say and do,
in the person I am and who I become,
in the person you made me to be...
May Lent be a springtime of grace for me, Lord
a season to grow in your risen peace,
from this week's ashes to Easter morn...
Amen.
