NIGHT PRAYER: Palm Sunday 4/10

On Sundays, Night Prayer will focus on an element from the day's celebration of Mass. Tonight we reflect on the story of the Passion of Jesus who emptied himself out for us, bearing the burden of our sins on his shoulders and laying down his life for us on the Cross, the measure of the love he calls us to have for one another...

Holy Week's a special time, Lord,
to ponder how deep is your love for us all
but I want to take time in these holy days
to consider the depth of your love just for me...

You know and you call me by name, Lord,
you know my heart's secrets,
my sorrows and joys:
    I'm healed and forgiven,
    I'm blessed and I'm saved
    by the depth of the grace you offer me
    from the height of the Cross of your love...

O, the depths of the love you offered Lord,
when you laid down your life for me:
    when you suffered and died,
    that I might find peace
    and life forever with you...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep rest in your peace...

Amen.

I think you may agree
that this song's simple, haunting beauty
is itself a grateful prayer
for the depths of Christ's mercy and peace...

O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free,
rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me,
is the current of thy love;
leading onward, leading homeward,
to thy glorious rest above.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Spread his praise from shore to shore;
how he loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore;
how he watches o'er his loved ones,
died to call them all his own;
 how for them he intercedeth,
watcheth o'er them from the throne.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Love of ev'ry love the best:
'tis an ocean vast of blessing, 'tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
'Tis a heav'n of heav'ns to me;
and it lifts me up to glory,
for it lifts me up to thee.
