NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 4/21

A friend told me he waits for these Night Prayers because evening's the time when his hope runs low and these prayers help to lift his spirits.  Thinking my friend is not alone, this night's prayer is a plea for hope...

As evening shadows fall, Lord,

    help me hope for the light of dawn...

In the midst of my distress,

    help me hope for deep serenity...

When I'm lost in all that's past, Lord,

    help me hope for what's to come...

 

When sadness stills my heart,

    help me hope for joy that lasts...

When confusion rules my thoughts,

    help me hope for understanding...

When I'm off on my own stubborn way,

    help me hope for grace to follow you...

When I'm lonely and alone, Lord,

    help me hope for love that binds me close to you...

When I'm lost in fear and doubt,

    help me hope for faith and trust in you...

 

When I don't know where to turn,

    help me hope to find my way in you...

When I'm vulnerable and weak, Lord,

    help me hope to find my strength in you...

 

Help me find my hope in you, Lord,

    in your saving love and mercy,

help me find my hope in you, 

    my only hope...

 

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

and asleep rest in your peace..
