NIGHT PRAYER: Tuesday 4/19

For this we're grateful, Lord:

Easter joy still shines, still glows

within our hearts and in our prayer

and the peace born of your rising

has settled deep within...

 

Still, there are clouds in our thoughts

and shadows in our souls

as the specter of Ukraine and the struggles of her people

cast a darkness on our world, upon our prayer

and in our hearts...

 

We pray, Lord, for your light to come

and burn away the darkness

that we might see the errors of our ways

and learn from you, the Prince of Peace,

how we might lay down our arms,

stop the killing

and put an end to war...

We pray, Lord, for your Spirit to come

to fill our hearts with your wisdom

and humble our pride with your mercy,

the mercy you call us to share

with all our sisters and brothers...

And for the people of Ukraine we pray, Lord:

    deepen their faith and trust in you,

    strengthen their resolve and their hope,

    heal their broken, grieving hearts

    and comfort them with peace,

    the peace that only you can give,

    the peace of Easter joy...

 

(As children we lit candles in church, trusting they'd burn as a prayer before God long after we'd left the sanctuary and gone home.  In that same spirit, let's pray...)

Light candles of prayer in our hearts, Lord,

prayer for our sisters and brothers

living in, fleeing Urkaine:

    votive flames pleading for mercy,

    praying for peace to come -and come soon-

    praying for joy to rise again...

 

Protect us, Lord while we're awake

and watch over us while we sleep

that awake, we might keep watch with you

and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.
