It seems it was just last week, Lord...
I was wondering when leaves, at last,
might grace the barren branches
arched above my daily path
along Cochituate Road...
And, voila! They're here!
They're everywhere!
Overnighted by your hand,
your gift of shade arrived
in shades of green too many
and too beautiful
for me to count or name
and now I wonder:
how did you do that?
or how did I miss your careful leaf-by-leaf artistry,
foliating every branch and twig
with love exquisite and divine?
Perhaps...
perhaps I was distracted
when you dazzled and seduced me
with those flowering trees
blooming on my daily path
along Cochituate Road...
And if that's the case, Lord,
- don't stop now!
Sneak up on me, surprise me, Lord!
From out of nowhere, knock me off my feet
with what you've done behind the scenes:
with secret gifts, astonish me
with grace divine and love beyond all telling...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep rest in your peace...
Amen.
