May is a month of special devotion to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. On the Saturdays of May, Pause for Prayer will focus on Mary with an appropriate musical selection, today: Carey Landry's Hail Mary: Gentle Woman.
We live in a tough world, Lord,
a rough and tumble, harsh, coarse,
often unforgiving place
where humankind and nature, too,
make hard the streets we walk,
the neighborhoods we live in
and the global village where
we've yet to find the way to live
in harmony, as family
in peace...
So this morning, we turn to Mary,
your mother, our mother;
Mary, gentle woman, quiet light,
morning star, so strong and bright;
Mary, gentle mother, peaceful dove,
seat of wisdom, heart of love:
Be our mother, Mary,
full of just the grace we need
to be your faithful children,
kind and gentle towards our neighbor,
making peace with one and all
and with the world we call our home...
Gentle Mother, peaceful dove,
teach us wisdom; teach us love...

The Lord is with you.

Gentle woman, quiet light,
Morning star, so strong, so bright.
Gentle mother, peaceful dove,
Teach us wisdom, teach us love.
You were chosen by the Father,
You were chosen for the Son,
You were chosen from all women
and for woman, shining one...
Blessed are you among women,
blest in turn all women, too,
blessed they with peaceful spirits
blessed they with gentle hearts...
