NIGHT PRAYER: Wednesday 7/13

I had lunch today with some friends who, in different ways and varied vocations, are drawn together by common theological threads. We don't all think alike but our shared faith holds and binds us together.  I found today's gathering (unfortunately minus one of our regulars) to be especially graced by the Spirit who, I believe, is the one who convenes us.  Our time together reminded me of the opening verse of Psalm 133 and inspired today's Night Prayer...

Ecce quam bonum et quam jucundum
    habitare fratres in unum!
-Psalm 133
See how good and how pleasant it is,
when brothers and sisters dwell as one...

How good it is and how pleasant, Lord,
when we gather together to bless your name...

How rewarding it is and how grace-filled, Lord,
to sit in your company, close by your side...

How sweet and satisfying it is, Lord,
to ponder, together, the depths of your love...

How delightful it is and engaging, Lord,
to share with friends the grace of faith...

How confirming, challenging and comforting, Lord,
to examine together our faith and beliefs...

How enlightening it is, how enriching, Lord,
to learn from sharing our struggles and insights...

How refreshing it is and how fruitful, Lord,
to name with others how great you are...

How helpful and healing it is, Lord,
to share with each other our sorrows and joys...

How desirable it is, how agreeable, Lord,
to plumb together your wisdom's depths...

How good it is and how pleasant, Lord,
when we gather together to bless your name...

Protect us, Lord while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.
