Six months old today, Lord, the war in Ukraine:
half a year of bombing, shelling,
death and destruction...
I can't imagine how deep is your grief
when some of your children invade and attack
their brothers and sisters next door...
The tears you must weep as others stand by,
paralyzed by politics, frozen in fear,
unable, unwilling, not ready to intervene...
What must you think, Lord, when disaster becomes
a sound byte, a meme, a post,
picked up, perused, deleted, forgotten...
I have questions, Lord - not answers;
my only power rests in prayer and in support
that I might send for those in need...
We want peace, Lord:
we long for peace, we call for peace
we work for peace, but there is no peace...
We pray for peace, the peace that comes
when hearts surrender to the peace
that only you can give...
Move the tyrant's heart to peace, Lord,
and all our hearts to serving those
whose cry for peace sounds in our souls...
Protect us, Lord while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
