(The first Friday of every month is a special day of devotion to the Heart of Jesus. It's been some time since I've posted a "First Friday" prayer and this is the fourth day of November!)

Lord...

You know my joys and sorrows,
make them channels of your grace:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Heal the hearts of those I've hurt,
mend any harm I may have done:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

In your mercy sweep my soul
of all my failings, faults and sins:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Lift my spirits from the depths
to the joy that's born of peace:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Clear my mind of idle thoughts,
of all my foolishness and folly:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Grant me grace to do for others
what I'd have them do for me:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Be my hope when I am lost
and be my strength when I am weak:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Make me quick to offer mercy
and to pardon and forgive:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

When I'm tempted to be selfish,
open wide my heart to give:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

When I envy others' gifts
make me grateful for my blessings:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

When I'm anxious and I'm worried
heal and calm my fearful heart:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Open my heart to your presence
just as your heart welcomes mine:
Heart of Jesus, hear my prayer...

Amen.

Spirit open my heart
To the joy and pain of living
As you love may I love
In receiving and in giving
Spirit, open my heart

1 God, replace my stony heart
with a heart that's kind and tender.
All my coldness and fear
to your grace I now surrender.

2 Write your love upon my heart
as my law, my goal, my story.
In each thought, word, and deed,
may my living bring you glory.

 Interlude

3 May I weep with those who weep,
share the joy of sister, brother.
In the welcome of Christ,
may we welcome one another.
