NIGHT PRAYER 12/17

Some say that Christmas is for children
but it's much more than that, Lord...

Christmas is for children
    because Christmas is for everyone...

Christmas is for the child in each of us
    - or better yet -
Christmas comes to find the child  in each of us,
    to rescue the child within,
to restore the child within us
        to innocence, simplicity and grace...

Christmas comes as a gift, a Child:
    dependent, vulnerable and naked,
waiting and wanting to be held and embraced,
to be cared for, loved  and known...

Come and embrace the child within us,
come and hold us in your arms,
come, Lord, and hold us close to your heart,
    beating as one with ours...

Christmas is for children, Lord,
so Christmas comes for each of us:
be born anew in our heart of hearts,
and restore within us a childlike grace...

Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

Tonight's music is a soft jazz instrumental.
Lyrics were later added and though not on this recording,
I've added them for your prayer while listening...

Now, out of the night
New as the dawn
Into the light
This Child Innocent
Child Soft as a fawn
This Child is born
One small heart
 One pair of eyes
One work of art
Here in my arms
Here he lies
Trusting and warm
Blessed this morn
A Child is born
