NIGHT PRAYER: Saturday 5/27

It's the eve of Pentecost, Lord,

    and I pray for your Spirit to come, to hover,

        above me, around me, within me...

I pray for your Spirit to surround and embrace,
    to fill and heal the hearts of all,
        especially my family and friends
    and those this night who are most in need
        of your Spirit's holy presence...

And I pray tonight for your Spirit to come

    and envelop the world with freedom and peace,

with mercy and pardon, with healing and joy,

    and with hope for the dawning of brighter days...

 

On this vigil of Pentecost, Lord, I pray

that your Spirit infuse the world and its nations,

    our neighborhoods, streets and cities,   

        our families, our homes and our Church,

with the gifts we need to make real change:

    to heal what bleeds, to mend what's broken;

    to do what's good, to love what's just

    and to walk, humbly, close by your side...

 

For all of this, Lord, we need your Spirit
    and the help of your Spirit's gifts;

we need the light of your Spirit's wisdom

    and we need it sooner than later:

        O God, we need it now!

 

In the shadow of your Spirit's wings, we pray to you tonight:

    protect us, Lord, while we're awake,

        watch over us while we sleep,

    that awake, we go where your Spirit leads

        and asleep, rest in your peace...

In the heat you shade us;
in our labor you refresh us,
And in trouble you are our strength.
Veni, Sancte Spiritus!

 
On all who put their trust in you
and receive you in faith,
shower all your gifts.
Grant that they may grow in you
and persevere to the end.
Give them lasting joy!
