Today is the feast of St. Thomas More and Saint John Fisher, two Renaissance men of the Church: More a married family man; Fisher, a bishop. Both were martyrs, giving their lives for the freedom of the Church and for freedom of conscience.
More's story is told in A Man for All Seasons, written by Robert Bolt, directed on screen by Fred Zinnemann and staring Paul Scofield as More.
This is one of my favorite movies - one of those films I've watched multiple times and never tire of doing so.
You can rent or buy the film here on YouTube.
Another version, starring Charlton Heston is reviewed as being more faithful to Bolt's book but lacking some of the cinematography of the Zinnemann edition. It's available here, for free, on YouTube.
