Tonight's prayer is a variation on a prayer
written by Saint Thomas More whose feast we celebrate today.
O Lord,
give me a mind that is humble, quiet,
peaceable, patient and charitable,
and a taste of your Holy Spirit
in all my thoughts, words, and deeds.
O Lord,
give me a lively faith,
a firm hope,
a fervent charity,
a love of you.
Deliver me, Lord,
from distracted and half-hearted
prayer and meditation.
Give me sincerity and joy
in thinking of you, your grace,
and your tender compassion for me.
And give me, good Lord,
the grace to work
for the things I pray for.
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.

Take my mind with all its plans and schemes.
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.
Take my thoughts, Oh Lord, and my memory.
Take my tears, my joys, my liberty.
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.
I surrender, Lord, all I have and hold.
I return to you your gifts untold.
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.
When the darkness falls on my final days,
take the very breath that sang your praise.
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.
