I came across a reel on line addressing the issue of bringing very young children on vacations and trips. I encourage you to take a look (just 40 seconds long!) Here are the words from the voice-over that really struck me:
Just because your kids won't remember somethingdoesn't mean that it's not forming who they arein deep and profound ways.In fact, those years that you don't rememberare some of the most formative years of your life...
How true, Lord, and how amazing:
I don't remember some of the experiences
that most profoundly shaped my life...
It's not so much that I've forgotten those times,
rather, it's more that I didn't totally understand them
even though they helped shape and form
the person I've become...
Some of those experiences may have been harmful
and so I pray you might heal me, Lord,
where I've forgotten what took place...
And some of the best experiences of my life
are times I can't remember or articulate
and so I pray, Lord: accept my praise and thanks
for blessings I received
before I could had the words to name them...
What a mystery, Lord:
how a human being grows!
What impressions stamp our souls,
bend and shape our selves
and tattoo our hearts for life
- long before our will finds power to
discern and decide,
judge and choose,
accept and refuse,
desire and embrace...
But the mystery of my being, Lord,
is fashioned by your love,
refined by your desire,
forged in your heart's fire,
enlightened by your wisdom
and healed by your anointing grace...
There are some things I've forgotten
but this I will remember:
it was you, Lord, who created me,
to mirror your divinity;
you've known me since before all time,
you formed me in my mother's womb,
you call me by my name
and you name me as your own...
Whatever in my distant past
has shaped whom I've become,
your grace will recreate me
in your image, Lord, divine
and make of me the child you love,
the apple of your eye...
Amen..
