Today's Pause for Prayer is a poem written by a dear friend for her daughter who moved away to college a few days ago. I know it led me to pause and pray, musing on the mothering love of our God.. I hope Lauren's words will do the same for you...
I’m knitting a
sweater for your heart
To keep you safe
in this cold world
With its sharp
edges
And gate keepers
I’m knitting a
sweater for your heart
Yarn from skein so
soft and sturdy
With a prayer of love
For each stitch
I’m knitting a
sweater for your heart
It will warm you
as the days grow cool
And the leaves
change color
And you journey
out into your new city
I’m knitting a
sweater for your heart
To calm you as you
study for finals
And snow settles
on the bare branches
And steam rises
from a hot cup of blueberry tea
,I’m knitting a
sweater for your heart
You can tie it
‘round your waist
When the snow
melts
And you walk to City
Hall Park on the first day of spring
I’m knitting a
sweater for your heart
You can spread it
on the grass
When you bring a
picnic lunch
To share with
friends
I’m knitting a
sweater for your heart
To serve you all
the days and seasons
Sorrows and Joys
Failures and
fortunes
I’m knitting a sweater for your heart
To fortify the beauty with in you
On days when the rain beats down
And the answer is no
I’m knitting a sweater for your heart
So you can feel my love within you
Even when
you are far away
