O God, help us hope for peace
as war breaks out again...
Help us hope for reason's triumph
over violence and bloodshed...
Help us hope for keen diplomacy
in place of strife and misery...
Help us hope that human decency
resolve our ancient grievances...
Help us hope for consultation,
mediation, intervention...
Help us hope for wisdom's mystery
to soften hardened hearts...
Help us hope for joy to rise again
in souls weighed down by grief...
Help us hope for righteous order
to defeat the reign of chaos...
Help us hope we'll find an end to war
in finding you among us...
Help us hope that one day, very soon,
we'll pound our swords into ploughshares
and together reap the harvest: the victory of peace...
Help us hope for more when all seems lost
and put our trust in you, Lord,
you're the source of all the peace we know,
your mercy paves the way...
Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
