Before and after you pray today,
spend a few moments with the image above...
We'll celebrate your birth this weekend, Lord;
rejoicing and gathering in prayer and song
in honor of you, our Prince of Peace....
Don't let us forget, in the midst of it all,
you'll be born again, Lord, a child in arms,
in Israel, Gaza and Haiti,
Venezuela, Ukraine and Sudan...
You'll be born in the terror and rubble of war,
of poverty, hunger and homelessness;
you'll be left to suffer while hate and greed
bargain and battle your life away
for oil, land and prestige
for politics, profit and power...
This weekend, Lord, we'll celebrate your birth,
rejoicing and gathering in prayer and song
in honor of you, our Prince of Peace....
Keep us mindful of your suffering,
your poverty and homelessness,
of our responsibility
to seek you out and save you,
you who save your people,
you, our Prince of Peace,
you, the child in our arms...
Amen.
