NIGHT PRAYER: Wednesday 9/25

This afternoon I face-timed with a friend who has recently moved abroad and during the conversation I became aware of how grateful I am to have such a person in my life.  And that led me to consider some of the many  people whose paths the Lord has crossed with mine...

 

So many people, Lord...

 

So many good, kind and wonderful people...

 

So many interesting, gifted and delightfully quirky people...

 

So many wise, insightful and thoughtful people...

 

So many disarming, funny and gracious people...

 

So many loyal, faithful, devoted people...

 

So many hurting, healing, helping people...

 

So many easy-going, gentle and peaceful people...

 

So many prayerful, spiritual and devout people...

 

So many rugged, strong and weathered people...

 

So many tender, fragile, graceful people...

 

So many comforting, challenging and consoling people...

 

So many people demanding the best of me...

 

So many people forgiving the worst in me...

 

So many people patient with my impatience...

 

So many people giving me a second chance...

 

So many people just passing through my life...

So many people going the distance with me...

 

So many good people whose names I didn't catch...

 

So many good people whom I've forgotten, Lord...

 

So many good people I've loved, Lord,

    gone far too early, much too soon...

So many good people, still by my side,

    who have my back, who take my hand,

    whose understand, who prop me up,

    who lift me up and bring me joy,

    who dry my tears and calm my fears,

    who steady me in troubled times

    who mend my heart and warm my soul,

    who shelter me with love and care,

    who help me trust you're always there,

    who help me trust, Lord,

    you are always there...

 

So many good people, Lord!

So many more than I might count!

And for each and every one of them

    I give you thanks and praise,

from the bottom of my heart this night,

    I give you thanks and praise...

  

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

    and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

    and asleep, rest in your peace...
