NIGHT PRAYER: Monday 12/29

 

Just two days left in this old year, Lord: 

    December 30 and 31,

so in just about 48 hours

    we'll ring in a brand new year... 

 

Is there any unfinished business

    I might tend to or take care of

        before clock strikes 12?

 

Is there someone 

    I need to call or email or text?

Someone who's been waiting or wanting

    to hear from me?

someone who'd love 

    to hear from me? 

Are there faults I need to acknowledge?

    an apology I need to offer?

        forgiveness I need to seek? 

 

Are there kindnesses I've not recognized?

    thank-yous I need to make?

        gratitude I need to express?

 

Is there anything, Lord, 

    between you and me

        I need to bring to speech?

Something I need to confess?

    something that needs to be reconciled?

Are there mercies I've not accepted

    or blessings you want to give me,

        gifts just mine for the asking?

 

Well, if I can, in just two days, Lord,

    tend to my unfinished business

then give me the grace to follow through

    to end this year in peace...

 

But if the time is just too short 

    then help me now resolve 

to make things right

    in the year ahead

and give me the grace 

    to start again

        to walk close by your side...

 

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

    and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

    and asleep rest in your peace...
