Prayer for Veterans Day
God of peace,
we pray for those who have served our nation
and have laid down their lives
to protect and defend our freedom.
We pray for those who have fought,
whose spirits and bodies are scarred by war,
whose nights are haunted by memories
too painful for the light of day.
We pray for those who serve us now,
especially for those in harm's way.
Shield them from danger
and bring them home.
Turn the hearts and minds
of our leaders and our enemies
to the work of justice and a harvest of peace.
Spare the poor, Lord, spare the poor!
May the peace you left us,
the peace you gave us,
be the peace that sustains,
the peace that saves us.
Christ Jesus, hear us!
Lord Jesus, hear our prayer!
Amen.

ReplyDeleteGreat prayer and picture. Thank you for reminding us to thank a Veteran!
Beautiful prayer. I haven't had a chance yet to watch the video. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYour moving prayer is now linked from my parish's list of Veterans Day reflections.

Thanks, Mark: I've put up two more posts for 11/11 and have linked there to St. Charles - quite an active parish!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful prayer. I used it with our "Welcome Home" group for returning Catholics at our parish (St Joseph the Worker, Richmond BC Canada).
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Larry: happy to be of service to you and your returning folks!
ReplyDeleteChecked out your blog: beautiful photography and your writing is very fine: straight forward, warm, to the point, inviting... a nice combination - you should post more often!
Thank you, ConcordPastor, for your kind words. You have inspired me to not only post more, but to also post about my faith.
ReplyDeleteLarry, I don't have an email address for you but I doubt that many folks are going to be checking this November post! I've visited your site several times, hoping there'd be a new post but even though there hasn't been, I've enjoyed and really found peace in the photographs... I'll keep checking in... it's just a good place to visit! And I'm sure the real LuLu Islan makes the virtual pale by comparison!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am using this with my Sunday school group tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteI'm VERY pleased to hear that, John!
