Vase of Flowers by Kay Crain |
On Saturday, at my porch steps,
I found a vase of flowers
left there for me
but without a card or note:
a beautiful gift from a mystery giver...
Then yesterday I stumbled upon a clue
and I asked two friends,
"Was it you who left the flowers at my door?"
They feigned innocence but I knew
and drew them out
and thanked them for such kindness,
such mysterious kindness...
It was also yesterday, in a moment of grace,
when your Spirit opened my eyes, Lord,
and I became aware of some other gifts
left at my heart's porch,
gifts delivered to soul's doorstep, unsigned,
but I'm so very sure they came
from the mystery of your love...
Gifts, from you:
dropped in my lap,
planted in my imagination,
tucked in my back pocket,
entrusted to my open hands...
You never tire of giving, Lord -
not even when I'm too busy or too foolish,
too distracted and preoccupied to seek
and find and open what you've hidden
in plain sight...
Grant me moments of grace today
to find the gifts you've left me, Lord,
on the doorstep of my heart...
Amen.
(And thank you, R and G!)
