It's Lent
and still winter where I live,
O God...
Let the ashen gray of a predawn forest,
its bare branches longing to bud
and the chill of mid-March mornings
waiting for April's warmth
'neath a blanket of fresh fallen snow,
let all this ready me,
open and prepare me
for the rising of your Son
breaking forth with untold fiery beauty,
waking the earth and calling my soul
to stir, to live, to thrive,
to cast off what has been
and welcome to my heart
the peace you came to bring,
the peace I sorely need,
the peace that's only yours to give...
Amen.
