Pause for Prayer: FRIDAY 12/28

Epiphany's more than a week away, Lord,
but three gifts are on my mind this morning,
three gifts I received this Christmas...

The first came a week early
from a man my parish has helped
(through his many rough patches)
with gift cards to a local supermarket.
He stopped by while I was out and left a note
which included four $25 gift cards:
things are going much better for him now
and he wanted to help others
as he'd been helped...

Among my gifts on Christmas day,
a collection of photos
capturing moments spent with friends:
images of times remembered, shared, celebrated
and present once again now to my eyes
and, more importantly, alive again
and present in my heart,
a gift to touch my soul...

Then yesterday, the third day of Christmas,
a long breakfast with someone I see but once a year:
meaty conversation, philosophical, theological,
talk of life and things spiritual,
of discerning and following a path leading to you, Lord,
and seeking the Spirit, the wisdom that tethers us
(in spite of our selves)
to you, to your love
and to the truth of who you are in our lives...

Three wonder-filled, powerful, heartfelt gifts, Lord,
and for all of them, each in a different way,
I give you thanks and praise...

Amen.
