How came I
to be born when I was, Lord:
on one particular day, at one particular hour,
in one particular place,
of one woman and one man
who brought me to life in this world?
Whatever the circumstances, time and place,How came I, Lord,
for weal or for woe,
I came as your own, Lord,
unique in your eyes,
beloved,
a child of your love and your grace...
to talents and gifts,
all mine to develop and share:
the talents I've used and those I've hidden,
the gifts I rejoice in and those I fear?
All I have comes from you, Lord,How came I, Lord,
and from no other source:
each gift a sure sign
of your love and your grace
offered to me
who's done nothing to merit,
much less to deserve,
all you have given to me...
to the story that's mine,
with its good times and bad,
its sorrows and joys,
each inscribed in my words
and etched in my deeds?
Whatever my tale of decisions and choices,How came I, Lord,
the large and the small,
the good and the bad,
the pure and the sullied,
the right and the wrong,
the just and unfair -
all of these write the story of your love,
how I turn from or welcome your grace...
to this time of prayer,
to this moment of rest in your shade?
You've called me here, Lord,Amen.
by your Spirit I'm drawn,
and I'm calmed to consider
how all that is mine, indeed my whole life,
is born of your wisdom, your plan
and your grace,
alive in my soul...
