NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 3/18

It was a day of nostalgia, Lord - a good day!

First,  lunch at Legal Seafood with an old friend,
someone I've not seen in years (great conversation!)
and then a visit to the Carmelite  Chapel,
whose entrance now abuts Not Your Average Joe's

When I took the stairs down to the chapel
a young man passed coming up the stairs
- two at a time!

I don't think I've seen anyone do that for some time
and the sight took me back to younger days
when I would sometimes bound upstairs
- two at a time...

After some prayer in the chapel I took my leave
and facing the staircase - I gave it a try
-or to be more precise, Lord, I tried to give it a try
but one stair at a time was all I could manage...

Now, don't get me wrong, Lord, I'm very happy, very grateful,
just to be able to walk up a flight of stairs!
But I realized my two-steps-at-a time days are behind me
- and that's ok...

Some things are behind me, Lord:
   some abilities, some possibilities,
   some joys, some sorrows
   some challenges, some opportunities
and some of those I miss and some I don't,
at times I was successful, at other times I failed,
I wept, I laughed, I grieved, I danced
and through it all you were by my side...

Some things are behind me, Lord, that's true
but there's so much is still ahead of me:
   new aptitude, new possibilities
   different challenges, new opportunities,
new moments to enjoy, new grief to bear,
new tears to cry, new reasons to laugh,
new paths to walk, new steps to dance
and through it all you'll be right by my side...

Some of my life is history
but the rest is the rest of my story, Lord,
the rest of my story yet to unfold,
still to be told, waiting to be lived
not two, but one step at a time,
one day at a time,
all in your good time, Lord,
the rest of my story yet to be told
in tears, in joy and in the peace
that's only yours to give...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

If I told you my story
You would hear hope, that wouldn't let go
And if I told you my story
You would hear love that never gave up

And if I told you my story
You would hear life, but it wasn't mine
If I should speak, then let it be of the grace
That is greater than all my sin

Of when justice was served, and where mercy wins!
Of the kindness of Jesus, that draws me in
Oh to tell you my story, is to tell of him

If I told you my story, you would hear victory
Over the enemy
And if I told you my story, you would hear freedom
That was won for me

And if I told you my story, you would hear life
Overcome the grave

If I should speak, then let it be of the grace
That is greater than all my sin

Of when justice was served, and where mercy wins!
Of the kindness of Jesus, that draws me in
Oh to tell you my story, is to tell of him

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my savior, all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my savior, all the day long

For the grace that is greater, than all my sin
Of when justice was served, and when mercy wins!
Of the kindness of Jesus, that draws me in
Oh to tell you my story, is to tell

Of the grace that is greater, than all my sin
Of when justice was served, and when mercy wins!
Of the kindness of Jesus, that draws me in
Oh to tell you my story, is to tell of him
Oh to tell you my story, is to tell of him
Oh to tell you my story, is to tell of him

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my savior, all the day long
