Pause for Prayer: SATURDAY 6/19

So many ads, everywhere I turn,
so many ads for Fathers Day gifts
and that's got me praying, Lord:
- for folks like me whose dads have died
- for those who never knew their dad
- for kids whose dads abandoned them
- for sons and daughters hurt by dad
- for those estranged by circumstance
- and for all who've sadly never known
        a father's love and care...
For all these folks, Lord,
Fathers Day's can be a hard day, a sad day:
a day of missing someone much beloved;
or grieving now a love that never was;
or musing on what might have,
    could have, should have been...

So I'm praying, Lord,
for all who'll be, for one reason or another,
without their dads this weekend:

- help us summon our best memories
       and celebrate this time with grateful joy
- help us pardon the harm we've suffered
       and move beyond the hurt that haunts
- bring us to peace with how we feel
       and to your Father's loving arms...

 Amen.
