NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 7/15

 

Evening's here, Lord, 

and I find myself wondering...

 

What kind of day might this have been

without you walking by my side,

matching every step I took?

 

What could my efforts have yielded

had not your Holy Spirit moved

in my imagination and my heart?

 

What words were mine to speak, Lord,

what message mine to preach,

save your gospel, planted in my heart?

 

What value was my work but for your grace, 

so freely given: filling and infusing

my every word and deed?

 

What peace might I have shared

had not your peace first filled my soul

to overflow in others' hearts?

 

Whatever knowledge filled my thoughts,

or insight my lips spoke, came wholly  

from your wisdom and your light...

What kind of day might this have been

were you not my friend and savior, Lord, 

source of all my grace, 

all my blessings and my peace?

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake,

watch over me as I sleep

that awake I might keep watch with you

and asleep, rest in your peace...
