NIGHT PRAYER: Tuesday 8/10

I know you've heard my prayer, Lord,

and while I'm waiting for you to answer me

here's what's in my mind and heart...

 

   Did I pray for too much, Lord?

   Did I ask for something unreasonable?

       trivial? selfish?

   Did I pray for something

       I can or should provide for myself?

   Are there other more important things

       that I should pray for first?

 

   Did I pray for too much, Lord 

       - or did I pray for too little?

   Was I slow to hope and trust

      that you'd be generous with your gifts?

   Did I hold back on praying

       from the depths of my heart's ache?

   Did I doubt that you would grant me

       all I genuinely need?

 

   Did I pray, Lord, for some gift 

       I've already received

          but have yet to unwrap and make my own?

 

   Have I asked for something I don't need

       - or don't need now, or yet?

 

   Did you answer my prayer some time ago

       in a way I didn't understand

           - and was your answer no?

 

   Or is this a prayer I'll always pray,

       the answer to which is the prayer itself,

           drawing me ever closer to your heart?

 

   Grant me patience, Lord, and wisdom

      as I wait for your response,

   and grace to welcome what may come

      in your good time, with all your love...

 

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

and asleep, rest in your peace...
