9/5/21

Pause for Prayer: SUNDAY 9/5

And a new week begins...

Who knows what this week will bring,
what will make the headlines,
trend in social media,
be fodder for the rumor mills?

Who knows what changes this week will bring
in the middle east, along our own borders,
between our political parties?

Who knows where Covid's headed next:
how many more new variants?
will it beat us before we prevail?

Who knows what the weather will bring:
more wild fires, hurricanes and earthquakes?
more heat waves, drought and floods?

Who knows how much the gap will widen
between those who have more than they need
and those who have next to nothing?

Who knows if we'll finally pursue the truth,
rejecting the lies and deception,
the self-serving hustle and scams?

Who knows what sorrows will burden your people,
what blessings and joy might lift us up?
Who knows what harm will come our way,
what healing will set us free?
Who knows what turns our paths will take,
along our way home to you?

Who knows?
Only you know, Lord.
Only you...

Only you know our story before it's been told.
Only you see our future before it unfolds.
Only you know tomorrow and all that it holds.

Only you, Lord,
only you...

Be with us, Lord, and take our hand,
in the face of all that's unseen and unknown.

Be our wisdom and guide us,
be our strength and protect us,
be our light in the darkness
and lead us to peace...

Be the truth we seek,
the word that saves,
the mercy that heals
and the hope that sustains us...

Be our guarantee
that no matter what comes:
you have our back,
you're at our side,
your only desire,
our peace and joy...

Only you know, Lord, what this new week holds,
all we can know is your pledge of love
and your promise to guide us
through good times and bad
'til you bring us home
and we're one with you...

Only you know our story before it's been told.
Only you see our future before it unfolds.
Only you know tomorrow and all that it holds.

We believe in you, we trust you, Lord:
be our rock and redeemer,
our brother and shepherd,
our refuge from danger
the joy of our hearts,
our way, our truth and our life...

Amen.
