NIGHT PRAYER: Friday 10/1

Sometimes, Lord,

    Charlie Brown just doesn't get it

- but then sometimes

    he gets it just right!

 

 

Tonight, Lord, I ask for the grace

    to forgive those who hurt me today,

        - or yesterday - or last week,

        - or back in March - or last year

        - or way back in the day...

Help me let go my grudges and resentments

and in their place, fill me

    with compassion and understanding.

Help me forgive others, Lord,

    as I hope and pray you forgive me...

Tonight, Lord, I pray for some friends

    much in need of all kinds of assistance

and especially in need of a sense of your presence, 

    trust in your promises and hope for tomorrow.

And I pray tonight for those who are sick,

    for those who are homeless and hungry, 

    for those are bullied, forgotten and abandoned,

    for those who live in the midst of war and terror

    and for those who have no one to pray for them...

 

Tonight, Lord, I thank you for all my blessings:

    the ones that come to mind quickly

        and the ones I've yet to discover.

I thank you for all the gifts I take for granted:

    my health, my home, clean water, good food,

    a job, a family, my friends - and my faith in you.

Help me to share the blessings you've given me

    and to use the gifts I have

        that have too long gone unopened...

Give me a grateful heart, Lord,

    and a spirit of generosity 

        to share with all, all I have...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

and asleep, rest in your peace...

 

Amen.
