Your hospitality is overwhelming, Lord!
Your door is always open:
twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week,
365 days a year,
- including Thanksgiving and Christmas!
And your door is always open wide:
inviting me to come in and sit down,
take off my shoes, put my feet up,
kick back with you and know for sure
that finally I'm home, with you, my friend,
in a place that's safe and warm
where the light is always on
and lit for me...
So when you see me lingering
just outside your door, Lord:
give a shout, call me in, call me by my name;
make it clear you've been expecting for me, saving me a place
where I can crash and pour my heart out,
where I can laugh or cry - or even take a nap -
a respite from my daily work and worry,
time to curl up in the comfort of your presence
in the blessed peace that's only yours to give...
It's often cold and lonely just outside your door,
so call me in, I pray,
to the place where I belong,
the place that you've prepared for me,
a place right by your side, Lord,
in the warm glow of your light,
in the peace of your embrace,
in the place you make my home...
Protect me, Lord while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
