Pause for Prayer: FRIDAY 2/18

I didn't know, Lord, but every year
the third Friday of February is set aside
as National Caregivers Day...

Where would we be without people who care
    for those who can't care for themselves;
without folks who unfailingly care for others
    before their own needs are met...

Where would we be without professional caregivers
whose dedication, skill and knowledge
make of our world
a healthier, happier, holier to place
to live and breathe and grow
    - and survive!

And then those caregivers
    schooled in bonds of family life;
    trained by the needs of neighbors and friends;
    skilled in knowing just what to do,
        what to say, when to act,
        how to reach out and help
        how to comfort and calm...

Caregivers giving their time and their love
    patiently, faithfully, gently,
not thinking of self but always safeguarding
    the pride and precious dignity
    of those they hold in their care...

And all the ways, Lord, large and small,
    that all of us care for each other.
So many have cared for me, all my life,
    out of love and in friendship,
    with kindness, compassion and grace.
I only pray that in my own way
    I've cared as well and as often for them
        as I know they've care for me.

For caregivers everywhere, far and wide,
  and especially those who need care themselves,
I pray today in thanksgiving, Lord,
    to you whose care is healing mercy,
    to you whose love cares for us all...

Amen.

  1. This is a wonderful way to worship our caregivers all over the world. God, thank you for being with us right now and every day. God, help us to discover your peace. Let us receive your comfort. Help us to be at rest knowing that your care for us and that you love us. Amen. We confess that we don't understand why things happen the way they do. We don't understand why illness comes into our lives, but we do know that you walk every path of life with us. Amen. God, we know you guide the caregivers to provide the best care to others with your Grace.
