It was a Christmas gift, Lord -
a waxed Amaryllis bulb,
the kind requiring no water,
no horticultural skill,
just the kind that might bloom
- even in my care...
But alas, it did not.
So, just about a week ago
I placed it by a window
where it might receive more sunlight
- and, behold!
reposition me near a window of your grace
where the light of your presence,
the rays of your word
and the warmth of your glory
might shine on me
and bring to bloom
what's hidden inside me,
tease to growth
what lies dormant within,
and reveal the beauty
of your image in my soul...
Reposition the hearts of all your people, Lord,
and of our leaders among the nations
that we might bask in the light of your truth
and blossom in healing, with justice
in a harvest of peace
in this garden we call earth...
Reposition, turn and change, Lord,
who we are and where we're going.
Point us to the windows of your grace
where light divine is shining night and day...
Protect us, Lord while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
My thanks to MP and JS
whose Christmas gift inspired tonight's prayer!

Lord, let your face shine upon us,
shine upon us, shine upon us.
1) Listen to my song
hear me when I call, oh Lord my God:
be gracious, hear my prayer.
2) You have called my name,
set your seal upon my heart:
you hear me when I call.
3) Fill me with your joy
grant to me a peaceful rest
to dwell in safety with my Lord.
