Coffee in the Morning

Good morning, good God!

 

It's a day for parades and concerts,

for fireworks and cookouts, 

for flags and trumpets, marching bands,

a day for the red white and blue...

And it must be, it has to be

a day of prayer for all, Lord,

    a day to offer thanks and praise,

    a day to pray for mercy,

    a day to pray for healing,

    a day to pray for peace,

    a day to pray for inter-dependence

    bringing us together again,

    one people, one nation, under one God

    with liberty and justice for all...

 

I offer you this morning, Lord:

    a hymn for grace and mercy,

    a prayer for strength and wisdom,

    a plea for healing for our hearts

    and for our nation's soul...

 

It's the 4th of July and like every day,

today's a day for prayer, Lord:

hear our prayer and answer us,

hear our prayer, O Lord...

Amen.
