Your heart, O Lord,
is eternal, infinite, boundless,
light years and eons beyond our dreams,
holding comfortably in its grasp
the ever-expanding universe,*
a concept our minds struggle
to understand or imagine...
Within your heart, Lord,
you hold the joys and sorrows
of all peoples, of all times,
past, present - and yet to come...
Within your heart you gently hold
every pain we've ever known
and carry with and for us
tbe burden of our sadness...
Within your heart you gently keep
every joy we've ever known
and join us in in our gladness
when your grace brings us peace...
But our hearts, Lord, are often
near to bursting with our sorrows
and sometimes joy goes missing
when sadness overcomes us...
Expand our hearts and make more room
for you to tend our hurt and pain
and open wide our souls, Lord,
to welcome in the joy your presence brings...
Your love is everlasting, Lord, infinite and boundless;
help each one find the place you hold
to welcome and and to keep us
in the vast expanse of your eternal heart...
Protect us, Lord while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.

Spirit, Open My Heart

Spirit open my heart
To the joy and pain of living
As you love may I love
In receiving and in giving
Spirit, open my heart
1 God, replace my stony heart
with a heart that's kind and tender.
All my coldness and fear
to your grace I now surrender.
2 Write your love upon my heart
as my law, my goal, my story.
In each thought, word, and deed,
may my living bring you glory.
Interlude
3 May I weep with those who weep,
share the joy of sister, brother.
In the welcome of Christ,
may we welcome one another.
