NIGHT PRAYER: Friday 8/5

I first posted this prayer 7 years ago but spent some time today buffing and polishing it and adding some music to fit it for Night Prayer...

One night this summer, Lord,
let me linger on the beach at dusk
to moonbathe while the sky's still blue,
before the stars come out to play...

One night this summer, Lord,
let me hear the tide wash soft upon the shore
when the children have gone home,
their pails and shovels, waiting
for another summer's day...

One night this summer, Lord,
let my feet enjoy the moist cool kiss
of sand beneath my toes,
my steps a path of twilight hopes,
a trail of summer's grace...

One night this summer, Lord,
let a warm breeze gently brush my face,
reminding me how near you are,
how tender falls your touch
upon my heart, upon my soul...

One night this summer, Lord,
let the moonlight dance on frothy surf,
in lacy tracings on the shore:
your beauty teasing, drawing me
to step a little closer...

One night this summer, Lord,
let me linger on the beach at dusk
to moonbathe while the sky's still blue,
before the stars come out to play...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake,
watch over me while I sleep,
that awake, I'll keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

Our music this evening is Debussy's melancholic piano piece, Clair de Lune.  Even if you won't get to the beach this summer (or if you live hundreds of miles from the water's edge) I hope tonight's prayer and music might bring your heart to the shoreline of the ocean depths of God's love for you...
